From one raid that used Earthquake against us, to a raid where we use Earthquake against them...!
The next starter raid is tera electric Emboar! Finally an electric raid! Of course, specifically because it's the first one, I didn't have too many ground types ready... and so I specifically bred these two just for the raid.
This 10-minute tera electric Brave Emboar raid has x40 HP and its regular moveset is Flare Blitz, Drain Punch, Wild Charge, and Head Smash. No surprises there! It has Reckless for x1.2 damage with recoil moves, and so of course it packs as many as it can (though Drain Punch for fighting, since it doesn't have a recoil fighting move, is an interesting pick).
Emboar's extra actions are a player buff wipe at 90% time, followed by wiping its own debuffs at 80% time and putting up shield at 80% time (or 90% HP) covering around 40% of its health bar; meanwhile, at 55% HP it wipes debuffs again, at 40% HP uses Bulk Up twice in a row (!), and at 20% uses Heat Crash. Below 50% HP it starts taking a second action 75% of the time (more than the usual 50%!).
This is... a shockingly rude set of extra actions! Putting debuff wipe at the same time as shield means you can't easily debuff Emboar (and unlike special there aren't really any widespread reliable-physical-defense-lowering moves like Acid Spray for special defense), so a few Screech/Metal Sound strats I was planning simply couldn't be used. On top of that, having double Bulk Up so soon after the second debuff wipe means that Emboar could very easily go from -4 Atk to +2 Atk/Def and suddenly oneshot you if you were dealing damage too quickly!
Earthquake's your main attack here, so make sure Arboliva's not your ally! Grassy terrain halving Earthquake damage, which was handy in the last raid, now works against you.
0:00 - Garchomp
My first pick was Garchomp: Swords Dance then Earthquake would be the main damage-dealer, with Breaking Swipe's -1 Atk and even Scorching Sands' burn to reduce damage.
That much works well enough... but -1 Atk doesn't really cut it after the second debuff wipe when 2x Bulk Up is right around the corner. Even after resetting for Intimidate + Gardevoir healing (neither of which seemed to be as useful as I had hoped...), I had a lot of trouble surviving once the shield went down with usual Metronome strats, and so I had to fall back to holding a Shell Bell.
8:37 - Swampert
Meanwhile, my second pick turned out to be far better! Instead of relying on pure attack buffs plus enemy attack debuffs, Swampert instead increases both attack and defense in the same move, Bulk Up. As it turns out, this works far better than debuffs because of the second debuff wipe's timing! So well, in fact, that my very first attempt, while holding a Metronome, went flawlessly. Great job, Swampert!
Other plans that I didn't even bother to try after seeing the extra actions were Gliscor (who would be using Swords Dance + Screech + Lunge... though I suppose Swords Dance + Defense Curl would still work okay) and Sandy Shocks (who'd be debuffing with Metal Sound and I guess buffing with Iron Defense but has no SpA buffs... so definitely not worth trying). I was also jokingly suggesting Iron Defense + Swords Dance regular Sandslash but as it turns out only the Alolan form gets Iron Defense... though I suppose you could still substitute Defense Curl, and maybe pack the rare Crush Claw for a 50% chance at defense debuffs through shield.
On the other hand, after seeing just how well Bulk Up + Earthquake worked, a few more ground types likely would work great too. Great Tusk has insane ATK and DEF, or you could make up for the fighting weakess with Intimidate on Krookodile, or you could be cheeky and use post-tera Curse Golurk... Stamina Mudsdale is super-bulky but has no way of increasing attack or lowering enemy defense (apart from 50% chance Rock Smash), so unless you're running Body Press strats it'll probably take a while.
